While activating Mt Tomah on 8/3/2015, a summit-to-summit radio contact with David VK3MAY on Mt Lonarch VK3/VS-013 took my chaser score past 10000 points. It makes me the fourth VK to reach Supersloth status and the first outside VK3. It took 1941 contacts over 480 days or just under 1 year and 4 months to reach this milestone. Curiously, it took exactly the same number of days to go from 5000 to 10000 points as it did to achieve the first 5000 points. The graph below shows the rate at which chaser points accumulated. The rate is pretty steady at just under 21 pts/day.
What has improved is my ratio of chaser to activator points. At 5000 chaser points my ratio was over 100:1 but now with more focus on activating, the ratio is down to 34 – a lot more respectable!
Thank you to all the activators for making this award possible. I’m still having fun chasing summits and looking forward to the next 10000. Did someone mention SOTA is addictive?
My recent trip to Europe brought about some benefits on the SOTA front. I was able to do some chasing from the south of France clocking up many mostly CW contacts around Europe. Whilst I had made plenty of SOTA CW contacts in VK, it got me over the 1000 point line for CW. Being the first VK to make 1000 points on CW, I thought the Shack Sloth certificate was worth collecting, so here it is. I hope many other chasers achieve this milestone as CW chasing is a lot of fun!

The other benefit of Europe is that it is easier to work many different countries than from Australia. With 20 associations and 3 continents worked I qualified for the Platinum Mountain Hunter award. From Australia it can be difficult to crack the third continent which for me was Africa courtesy of contacts into Madeira (CT3). These contacts were actually made from Australia so it was more a matter of chalking up the 20 associations.

Other awards achieved recently were:
- Bronze Mountain Explorer – I have activated in 7 associations now
- 100 Activator Points
- Bronze Summit-To-Summit – 250 points
In a contact with Andrew VK1DA on Mt Delegate, my chaser score ticked past the 5000 point mark. It took 240 days or just under 8 months to accumulate the points. I’ve now received the wallpaper from the SOTA Awards Manager marking me as half a super-sloth. Thanks Andrew and all the activators for making those contacts possible!
After reaching this award level, I looked at my chaser points and realised there was a ratio of 100:1 between chaser and activator points. A bit shocked by that; I really need to put the effort into doing more activations!
Anyway, 9 days later in a contact with Ian VK1DI on Mt Gillamatong, I clocked up 1000 SOTA contacts. There are no official awards based on contact counts, but this milestone seemed noteworthy as well.
Looking forward to the next 5000 chaser points…
